![]() SOBO (Southbound) hikers starting in Maine will begin their hike generally in June/July, but your statistical chances of finishing are much lower. Most successful thru-hikes starting in spring in Georgia with the vast majority hiking NOBO (Northbound). Expect the hike to take at least 5 to 7 months (FKT being 41 days 7 hours and 39 minutes!). The trail is extremely challenging owing to its length, and the remoteness and unforgivingness of the trail at times, particularly in the northern sections of the trail. ![]() The Appalachian Trail is a roughly 2050 mi trail that starts in Springer Mountain, Georgia and ends in Mount Katahdin in Maine.
